The Story Behind the Stories:
Why We Started
This project began in early 2024 when local resident Mike Cartwright realised how many fascinating stories were quietly disappearing from our villages.
He knew for certain he'd hear incredible tales of local life - stories that deserved to be preserved for future generations.
Rather than let these memories fade with time, Mike decided to start recording them. As an ex-BBC radio producer he knew how to do that - that was the easy part.
What began as a few conversations with neighbours has grown into a fabulous collection of village voices.

Preserving the Past, Connecting the Present
Every village has a soul, and that soul lives in the stories of its people.
This project aims to:
-
Capture authentic voices before they're lost to time
-
Connect generations through shared stories
-
Preserve local heritage in the words of those who lived it
-
Build community by celebrating our shared history
-
Create a legacy for future villagers to discover and enjoy
What Makes Us Different:
Real Voices, Real Stories
These aren't polished documentaries or academic histories. They're genuine conversations with real people about real life. You'll hear laughter, pauses, "oh, and another thing..." - all the natural rhythms of memory and storytelling.
We focus on:
-
Everyday experiences alongside dramatic events
-
Multiple perspectives on shared memories
-
Honest recollections - the good times and the hard times
-
Personal details that bring history to life
