ACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT
Effective Date: October 2025

Our Commitment to Accessibility

The Legbourne & Little Cawthorpe Village Voices Project is committed to ensuring our website is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We believe everyone should be able to enjoy our village stories and participate in preserving our heritage.

Accessibility Standards

We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards. This means our website should be: • Perceivable - information presented in ways everyone can understand • Operable - navigation and functionality available to all users • Understandable - clear information and user interface • Robust - compatible with assistive technologies

What We've Done to Make Our Site Accessible

Visual Accessibility

• High contrast colours throughout the website • Large, readable fonts (minimum 16px, often larger) • Clear headings that organize content logically • Alt text descriptions for all images • Scalable text that can be enlarged up to 200% without problems

Audio Accessibility

Clear audio quality in all recordings • Simple audio controls that work with keyboard navigation • Volume controls easily accessible • Pause and replay functions for all audio content

Navigation Accessibility

• Keyboard navigation throughout the entire website • Skip links to main content areas • Consistent navigation structure across all pages • Clear page titles that describe content • Logical tab order through all interactive elements

Content Accessibility

• Plain English used throughout the website • Short paragraphs and clear structure • Descriptive link text that explains where links go • Error messages that clearly explain what went wrong • Form labels that clearly identify required information

Known Limitations

We're a small volunteer project, and some accessibility features are still being improved:

Currently Working On:

Complete audio transcripts for all recordings (in progress) • Screen reader optimization for audio players • Mobile accessibility testing across all devices •

Platform Limitations:

Some accessibility features are limited by our Wix platform, but we're working within these constraints to provide the best experience possible.

How to Use Our Site Accessibly

For Screen Reader Users:

Headings organise each page logically • Skip links available at top of each page • Alt text describes all images and graphics • Audio transcripts are currently not available for audio recordings but it is our intention within the limitation of our volunteer status.

For Keyboard Users:

Tab key moves through all interactive elements • Enter key activates buttons and links • Arrow keys control audio players • Space bar pauses/plays audio

For Low Vision Users:

High contrast mode supported in all browsers • Text scaling up to 200% without horizontal scrolling • Clear visual indicators for all interactive elements • Consistent layout across all pages
